How To Play

Herewords is a word game played in six steps. You start with a one-letter word and climb to a six-letter word. Each solved word stays on the board, and the points you earn along the way are what let you buy another chance when a longer word gets away from you.

Gameplay Basics

You guess a series of common words that grow from 1 letter to 6 letters. At each length you receive one more guess than the word has letters. A two-letter word gives you three guesses. A six-letter word gives you seven.

Every guess remains on the board for the rest of the run, grouped under its length. That record is how you read what you have already tried. Play Again starts a new run, clears the score, and begins again at one letter.

Letter Clues

After each guess, every letter is marked:

A letter marked absent cannot be typed again at that length. If the same letter is also marked correct or present in another spot, it is still allowed. The ban resets when you move on to the next length.

When you solve a word, any of its letters that also appear in the next word glow yellow until you submit the first guess at that new length.

Scoring And Multipliers

Each letter has a fixed value. Your score for a solved word is the sum of those values multiplied by the guess multiplier. The first guess at a length carries the highest multiplier, equal to one more than the number of letters. Each miss lowers that multiplier by one, down to ×1. A miss does not add points. Only the correct word does.

The points for a solved length appear in green beside that length’s heading. The multiplier for a solved row stays in teal beside the correct guess.

The highest possible total score in the game is 875.

Buying Extra Guesses

If you spend your allotted guesses before you find the word, you may buy more attempts with the points you have earned. Extra guesses score at ×1. You can buy as many as you can afford, but the offer is made only once for that length. Buy every extra you think you will need in that moment. A later miss does not open the shop again.

4 letters12 points
5 letters24 points
6 letters48 points

The points you spend appear in red beside the last normal guess of that length.

Strategy

To reach the final six-letter word with a high score, balance an aggressive first guess with a careful treasury.

Use The First Guess

The first guess carries the largest multiplier, so do not spend it on a filler word. If a letter from the word you just solved is glowing yellow, it belongs in the next word. Use that hint before you commit.

Save Points On The Short Words

The one-letter, two-letter, and three-letter words are the easy steps. Avoid buying extras there. Those points are the safety net for the five-letter and six-letter words, where a single extra guess costs 24 or 48 points.

Respect Absent Letters

You cannot reuse a letter once it has been marked absent at the current length. You cannot burn a turn on a dead letter to probe another position. Every guess has to be made of letters the board still allows.

Buy Once, And Buy Enough

The shop opens once per length. You cannot buy one extra guess, miss, and then buy another. When the offer appears, decide how many attempts you can afford and take them together.

Keep A Cushion For The Last Word

An extra guess at six letters costs 48 points. Heading into the final lengths, a treasury of at least 48 to 96 points leaves room for a mistake without ending the run.
